Her eyes. That’s the first thing I remember about welcoming Ella into this world. Her bright wide eyes staring up at me for the first time. There is something about that moment when you see the child face-to-face who you’ve carried around inside you for nine months. In that moment, I knew that nine months of pregnancy and 24 hours of labor were all worth it. I was a mom!
Of course, the moment was a bit more dramatic when Ella was born since she was the first child. But, I remember the same moment with Lucie. Like Ella, she stared up at me with those big, wide and beautiful eyes – even while she nursed for the first time. And now, they are so expressive – I could just stare at them all day long.
For whatever reason, I figured that Baby #2 would have coloring like Ella – brown hair at birth that would turn blond and blue eyes. And immediately after Lucie’s birth, I thought that was the case. She had the dark hair and her eyes seemed bluish. In the past few months, though, her eyes have changed. When you look at the girls side-by-side, you can see that their eyes are significantly different. Ella’s eyes are a much truer blue whereas Lucie’s appear to be more gray in color. When I’ve referred to Lu’s eyes as gray, Brett says "Gray is not an eye color!" But, that’s what they look like to me, and sometimes in the right light they even have a hint of brown. They say eye color can change during the first year of life, so I’m really at a loss as to what they will turn out to be. Even the pediatrician Dr. Howe said (without prompting), "Don’t even ask me what color her eyes will be because I have no idea." But, what do you guys think? Beautiful picture!
Thanks! Ella's hair is a little crazy in the pic (as usual)...but one of these days I'm going to take her to get her hair cut!
That is so cute. I can't seem to get my boys to cuddle long enough to take a picture! I love it, your girls look so sweet.
Thanks Rebecca! Ella does like to cuddle her little sister every once in awhile. I don't offer it very often and she doesn't ask either. But, when I do suggest it, she usually jumps at the chance. After I took the picture, Ella wanted to sit like that and watch a video with Lucie. Needless to say, I didn't go for that one...but it was cute that she asked.
Lucie reminds me a little of Cal in that pic. Maybe she'll do the big brown eyes thing and look like G'pa Jack.
You know, Mom always said that people commented on how much I looked like Dad as a baby. And now everyone tells me that Lucie is the spittin' image of me. So, by the transitive property, that would mean that Lucie looks like Dad!
