Awaiting Hurricane Irene

Well, it has been  an interesting week to say the least. First, an earthquake and now a hurricane. At the very least, it has stressed in my mind the importance of being prepared for emergencies. On Thursday, I went to Home Depot to return some things and got a first-hand glimpse of East Coasters preparing for a hurricane. It was only about 10am, but nearly everyone was purchasing generators and multiple plastic gas cans. It was quite a site to behold. At that moment, it really sunk in that we should really start preparing for this hurricane just in case. So, the past few days we've been doing what we can to prepare. I've shopped for non-perishable food, water and a camping stove and propane. I've baked a batch of Breakfast Cookies as a yummy treat / breakfast alternative. Brett has checked the gutters, trimmed some branches that threatened to take out power/cable lines, and stored our backyard items in the garage. Our gas tanks are full, our cell phones are charged, and our bathtub is filled with emergency water. Now there isn't much more to do but watch the wind and rain in our backyard and wait to see what Irene brings.
